Animals, Kindness & Unexpected Connections

An invitation to share carefully sourced encounters between people and animals—and between animals themselves—from every room of our shared house.

Our living encyclopedia includes the animals with whom we share this planet. Their lives, abilities, and relationships offer opportunities for curiosity, appreciation, and learning.

Michael has watched short videos showing animals playing, responding to people, interacting across species, or receiving help when trapped or injured. Some appear to show an animal approaching a person when another animal needs assistance. Such scenes can be deeply moving, while a short clip alone may not establish the animal’s intentions or the full circumstances.

What would you like to share?

The story behind the moment

Who recorded the encounter, and where and when did it happen? Was the animal wild, domesticated, rescued, or living under human care? What happened before and after the recording? What did you observe, and what remains uncertain?

Tell us what the experience meant to you and what others might learn. Please distinguish what the footage shows from interpretations of the animal’s thoughts or intentions. If it is a personal account, identify it as such.

Care comes first

We welcome genuine care and observation. We do not seek performances that frighten animals, forced encounters between species, or rescues staged by putting an animal in danger. Do not approach wildlife or attempt a risky rescue to create content; seek appropriate local wildlife or rescue assistance.

Short videos may omit important context. We review original sources, available background, and credible supporting information before featuring a story. Clearly identify illustrations or AI-generated material; it must not be presented as documentary evidence. Avoid publishing precise locations that could put vulnerable wildlife at risk.

Learning to care for the whole house

Children and adults can explore these stories together, asking what the animals need, how people can help responsibly, and how our choices affect their surroundings.

We would like contributions from as many country houses as possible. Each verified story can help us discover more about the living world and the care it deserves.

If you support Governing for Life’s purpose—improving the well-being of people and the living world—we also welcome volunteer moderators and community mediators. Moderators help apply the participation guidelines fairly. Mediators help keep communication polite and respectful, make room for different viewpoints, and avoid using their role to promote personal opinions. Supporting the purpose does not require agreement with every article or perspective.

Choose the kind of help and the time commitment that suits you. Together, people from different countries, languages and experiences can help this worldwide conversation grow.
