Schools connecting across our shared house

One house. Many rooms. Open a door to learning together.

Illustrated rooms where children and teachers share art, nature, practical skills and ideas for school. — Six possibilities for learning across rooms. AI-generated illustration; fictional participants.

Sister schools: a partnership between learning communities

Much as cities form sister-city relationships, two schools could choose a sister-school or partner-school relationship in nearby communities or different countries. Neither adopts authority over the other. Both contribute knowledge, creativity and experience, with equal dignity. A class with modest resources may have ingenious skills another class has never encountered.

Visit another room without leaving your classroom

Meeting one another does not always require an airplane, train or car. Teacher-guided video conversations, pictures, letters, audio recordings and shared projects can connect children across the world. Where internet access is limited, occasional connections or a partner school can help. Languages, accessibility, time zones and school calendars need consideration.

What could our rooms share?

Artwork, music, stories, cultural traditions and pictures of local nature, shared with permission.
Ingenious creations with simple tools, reused materials or responsibly gathered natural materials.
What children like and dislike about school, how they learn best, and drawings of the schools they would like to help create.
Teachers’ approaches that worked and did not work, their experience with administration, and practical changes that could serve children, families and staff.

Constructive dialogue is a powerful path to positive change. Explain your position, listen to another person’s reasons and seek understanding together. The purpose is not to win a position. Respectful disagreement, questions and reconsideration belong in every room.

Adults agree before children connect

A teacher or school coordinator identifies a possible partner through a public school office or an established network.
Adults verify one another through official school channels and agree on a small initial project, supervision, permissions and privacy.
Both schools choose accessible ways to share and review material before exchange. No unsupervised private child messaging.
Keep participation voluntary, welcome all beliefs and prohibit political or religious recruitment. Cultural explanation does not require endorsement.
Review what children and staff learned, what caused difficulty and what they would change before continuing.

Use only public institutional contacts. A directory listing does not mean a school has agreed to participate. Do not publish student records, children’s contact details or private staff details. Teachers retain control of the exchange, follow their safeguarding policies and provide ways to decline or report concerns. No school must pay Governing for Life to express interest; connectivity and outside networks may have their own costs and conditions.

Existing international doors

UNESCO Associated Schools Network ↗ describes an existing international school network. ASPnet Connect ↗ provides a directory and map of member institutions and national networks. It is not a list of every school, and membership, access and coverage vary.

UNESCO National Commissions directory ↗ provides public institutional contacts for education and cultural cooperation where a country is listed. A commission is not necessarily its education ministry, and not every country house has a corresponding entry. Ask for guidance to a relevant school network or authority. These are independent resources; linking does not imply affiliation or endorsement of every outside policy.
